CO Featured Mom: Meet Sydney

 /

Motherhood is a journey as unique as you are, so it can often feel like you're doing it alone. Here at Colored Organics, we love to unite you, even if it's only virtually, to share some wisdom and camaraderie on the rollercoaster journey of parenting. We are so excited to share some insights on motherhood from Alabama-based mama Sydney!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

Hi, I’m Sydney Durbin! My husband, Alex, and I are currently in a very busy season of life. We celebrated our 7th anniversary this summer, welcomed another little one to our family, and moved to the state of Alabama from the Midwest! God has richly blessed us with two incredible boys who make life oh so fun! Our oldest, Beckham, is 2 ½ years old, and our youngest, Liam, is 4 months old. My husband is a college soccer coach, and I recently closed my photography business to pursue my dream job as a stay-at-home mom. My days consist of playing with dinosaurs and construction vehicles, park dates, changing diaper after diaper, messy finger prints, spit-up everywhere, and lots of little giggles. I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

WHAT'S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING A PARENT?

The most rewarding part of parenthood is seeing the world through my children’s eyes. The ordinary, everyday moments become extraordinary & every little thing feels like a new adventure that I’m experiencing for the first time because I get to do it with them.

WHAT IS THE MOST SURPRISING THING ABOUT PARENTHOOD?

I always thought that it was cliché when people said that time goes fast, but boy does it FLY. Each new stage is my favorite, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss parts of previous stages.

WHAT DOES SELF-CARE LOOK LIKE TO YOU?

I love getting out of the house and treating myself to a coffee, a sweet treat, or a little shopping trip or spa day. If I’m at home, I love to bake, go on walks, have a yummy afternoon drink during nap time, watch a binge-worthy show, or take an everything shower.

WHAT CHORE WOULD YOU FOREVER OUTSOURCE?

Putting away laundry. The folding and washing is the easy part. It’s the getting to everyone’s closet that I always put off.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF COLORED ORGANICS?

I’m a neutral-loving mama through and through. As a boy mom, it can be hard to find pieces that I love, but Colored Organic’s prints, colors, and designs never miss! In addition, our family has been taking steps toward a less toxic lifestyle, and we love that Colored Organics uses organic cotton, so we never have to worry about what we’re putting on our littles. Not to mention, the organic cotton makes the pieces so soft!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN EXPECTING MAMA?

Where do I start? Here are some things I’ve learned/am still learning along the way:
  • You’re stronger and more capable than you think you are!
  • You don’t have to do it all alone - don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Surround yourself with a village that cares about both you and your babies.
  • You know your child best, don’t be afraid to advocate for them.
  • It’s okay to set boundaries.
  • You won’t be perfect, and your child won’t love you any less when you mess up.
  • Do something for yourself each day.
  • Continue to date your spouse.
  • Most importantly, their childhood is your motherhood, so remember to have fun!
