June Feature

 /

For June, Colored Organics donated baby essentials and non-perishable items to those in need in our community. Also, we made monetary donations to The Conscious Kid and Color of Change to counter racist socialization, structural racism, and racial bias.

Community Donations

Our offices are in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, right in the epicenter of recent events, and we've taken in everything with heavy hearts. As a small company, we do our best to create lasting change through a positive impact on the world. Equality and inclusiveness are central to that effort. We have been working in our community this month through volunteer efforts to support those in need and donations of non-perishable items, baby essentials, and youth clothing for the children families in Minneapolis, as well as in Saint Paul.

On a National Level

Along with donating and volunteering in the community, we recognize the need to spread awareness of equality and inclusiveness on a larger scale. During this month, we've given to both The Conscious Kid and Color of Change in support of increasing that awareness, as well as the desire to educate our little ones and create a better and kinder world for them.

The Conscious Kid

The Conscious Kid is an education, research, and policy organization dedicated to equity and promoting positive racial identity development in youth. They focus on supporting organizations, families, and educators to disrupt racism in young children.

To counter racism and racial bias, experts recommend acknowledging and naming race and racism with children as early and often as possible (Baron & Banaji; Derman-Sparks). Children's books are among the most effective and practical tools for initiating these critical conversations with children. They can also be used to model what it means to resist and disrupt oppression.

As stated on their site, all donations made go to a dedicated fund for us to get children's books from their list of "41 Children's Books to Support Conversations on Race, Racism, and Resistance" into classrooms across the country.
